Client Spotlight: US Space & Rocket Center
The US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama is the birthplace of America’s space program and home of Space Camp, where as a teenager, I was a 4-time alumni and recipient of the Right Stuff Award. It was here that I designed my very first logo, which launched my career as a graphic designer. For more information about the Rocket Center, visit their website.

I created this graphic for the annual Space Camp Alumni Reunion Weekend (formerly known as Summerfest), in 2023 and is the current logo for the event. The design incorporates retro elements from the original Space Camp and Aviation Challenge logos of the 80’s and ‘90s for a nostalgic feel that’s meant to resonate with the alumni.
In 2024, a historic collection of rockets were put back on display at the Space & Rocket Center after several years of restoration. This coincided with their annual Space Camp Alumni reunion, so a graphic was needed to promote and commemorate the occasion.
The Rocket Center teamed up with local Huntsville brewery Yellowhammer to produce a Tang-flavored, space-themed beer called T-Minus. Proceeds from the sale of this beer would go towards Space Camp scholarships for kids. So the Rocket Center asked me if I would design the label for it. Since a lot of this beer would be consumed underneath the Saturn V at the Rocket Center’s weekly Biergarten event, it was a no-brainer to make the Saturn V rocket the centerpiece of the design. Since the beer is a Tangerine Kolsch, I used a lot of orange, made the moon behind the rocket a tangerine, and incorporated the Yellowhammer logo into that. The design and the beer was a big hit, and it quickly became the brewery’s top-selling beer.
In 2018, the annual reunion event for Space Camp alumni was called Rocket City Summerfest. This weekend was full of activities, and capped off by an outdoor concert. This design showcases Huntsville’s iconic “spaceline”.
This was my t-shirt design for the 2018 Rocket City Summerfest, an annual event that the Space & Rocket Center hosts for Space Camp alumni and the city of Huntsville. This design was sold on shirts that were red, light blue and charcoal gray in color.
Part of the annual Summerfest event at the Space & Rocket Center is the Space Camp Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony. For this, I created this pop-up banner stand with the Hall of Fame logo and a vector illustration of the Rocket Center that I created in Adobe Illustrator. This design gets updated every year.
When the Space Camp Alumni Advancement Board was established in 2014, their first task was to raise the money needed to bring the Gulfstream Shuttle Training Aircraft (STA) to the Rocket Center for display and preservation. I was asked to design a logo for the campaign. I produced many different layouts and solutions for the board to choose from. The selected design was sold on t-shirts, posters and patches to help raise money for the display.
Space Camp celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2017, and the Alumni Advancement Board asked me to create a logo for their scholarship fund drive. The logo I came up with shows two children touching a star that represents Space Camp. The path of the rising star leads the eye down to the “Drive To 35” message with the years below that.
Every year I get to design the poster that advertises the concert that the Rocket Center puts on for Summerfest. This concert takes place outside, usually in front of the Space Shuttle “Pathfinder” display. This is the poster for the 2017 event that featured cover band Party Of The Year, a side project of the Black Jacket Symphony.
This is the official logo representing over 800,000 Space Camp and Aviation Challenge Alumni all over the world. This was my first design task when the Space Camp Alumni board was formed in 2014.
